Had a wonderful meal at Hakashi Sushi! The atmosphere is cozy, and the staff was friendly and attentive. The sushi was fresh and beautifully presented, we had the Melanie's Roll, Hakashi Roll, and the Caterpillar Roll, each unique and tasty. The prices were reasonable for the quality, and I appreciated that. I also tried the espresso martini, which was just okay, would stick with sake next time. Overall, a great spot for fresh, high-quality sushi in Walnut Creek!
Absolutely love Hakashi! We have been here a couple times now and everything is delicious, and the fish is very fresh. The service is also fantastic- very attentive and welcoming. Cocktails are great too! This is a must visit in Walnut Creek.
The food was so good here, after taking a picture of the appetizers forgot all about the rest. Service was great and the food was so fresh, absolutely love the extensive menu can't wait to come back and try more things and have a drink.
Favorite sushi restaurant in the area. Risotto was something new we tried and it blew us away! Service is great and food is delicious!
This was one of the most entertaining sushi restaurants I've been to in a long while. My boyfriend and I found Hakashi on google and decided to give them a try. We sat at the bar and received prompt and friendly service. The bartender was so engaging and regularly checked up on us. He made recommendations, introduced us to the chefs, and genuinely encouraged us to explore the other restaurant they are affiliated with in SF. The sushi rolls were limited, but enough options to give us some variety. We tried the edamame and four rolls (dragon, rainbow, lion king, and caterpillar). My favorite was the lion king roll. The salmon had a really yummy smoky flavor that tied the roll together nicely. Overall, this place felt lively, servers were on top of drink and food refills/check-ins, and the food was top tier.
Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: Casual Value: 3.75/5 We ordered Unagi, Sake, Butterfish, Wagyu, Chu-toro nigiri, rainbow roll, dragon roll, shrimp tempura roll, spicy tuna roll, and gyoza. The fish did taste fresh and do well in that category. I'd be disappointed if it didn't as they advertise the fish is imported from Japan. Service was good and attentive even though it was a single waiter during lunch. I don't think you'll be let down by the restaurant and quality, however it didn't have the "wow" factor for me to earn 5 stars. In terms of value, this is where I felt it was lacking as the size of the nigiri and rolls were on the smaller side. While I'd prefer quality over size, I've eaten at similar priced and tiered sushi restaurants with equal freshness and bigger pieces. I'd recommend this place to friends for higher quality fish in Walnut Creek, but I wouldn't come running back here.
New spot in Walnut Creek with high quality sushi! Great for smaller groups, pretty casual but vibrant ambiance. Definitely recommend the Hakashi roll with spicy tuna topped with seared Escolar and black tobiko. We also tried the steamed egg dish (Chawanmushi) and infamous Daigo Shot - both OUTSTANDING and unique! The negitoro roll was a nice twist from the classic negihama. Waiter was very friendly and gave great sake recommendations! They even let us take the bottle home when we didn't finish.
Modern styled Japanese bistro and sushi restaurant, with a fun vibe and ambiance. We tried it for the first time later on a Saturday night and the place was busy, with the sushi bar and tables nearly full. We were seated pretty quickly, had our water glasses filled right away, and then scanned their food and drink menu using the QR code on the table. We tried two appetizers--the Daigo Shot and Chawanmushi--and both were outstanding. The Daigo Shot included buttery yellowtail with quail egg, truffle oil, additional sauces and crunch rice pearls, while the Chawanmushi was a silky smooth, lightly seasoned steamed egg custard with a tender piece of lobster in the middle. We then dove into several rolls that didn't disappoint, and the quality of the rice was very high. The Hakkashi roll was probably our favorite roll with a unique blend of seared escolar encasing a roll of spicy tuna, avocado and cucumber and topped with a spicy mayo, unagi sauce, black tobiko and sliced green onions. The Double Hamachi roll was also outstanding with sliced hamachi around a roll of spicy hamachi and topped with green onions and sesame seeds. We always try a restaurant's Rainbow Roll and they included both standard and some more unique sliced fish on top of a tasty crab filling. Finally, their bluefin tuna belly and green onion roll was a classic and delicious offering. We also enjoyed the Hilo Otokoyama Junmai sake which was a great complement to the sushi, with an extra dry finish and served nicely chilled. Service was also attentive throughout the meal, which was another plus. Overall, a great addition to the Walnut Creek culinary scene!
We used to have to drive all the way to San Francisco to enjoy this restaurant so I was ecstatic when they opened a second location in Downtown Walnut Creek. When I was first introduced to Chef Julio's unique preparation of Japanese sushi with a twist of Hispanic flair I was hooked. Amazing flavor combinations! Their omakase is a great deal and I always walk away with my belly and heart full. The cocktails here are delicious! I recommend sitting at the bar and watching the chefs prepare their masterpiece. The staff is friendly and the service is great. This is a great spot for date night, girls dinner, or anytime you crave quality sushi!
Checked out Hakashi for the first time. The staff are friendly and the order came out quick. We got a Chirashi entree, Hakashi Roll, Rainbow Roll, and an Arizona roll. The Chirashi is one of the best in the Bay Area, great quality of fish and the right amount of sushi rice. All the rolls are great as well. So why one star off? We also ordered the Mixed tempura (shrimp and veggies) but it is the blandest tempura we have were tried. I think they forgot to salt/season this dish, because even when dipped in the included soy sauce it was still bland. Hopefully, this was just an anomaly.
